Installing Write-N-Cite if running Yosemite or El Capitan

If you are running OS X 10.10 Yosemite or OS X 10.11 El Capitan, you will need to download a specific version of Java provided by Apple.  This version of Apple must be installed on the computer in order to run legacy applications such as Write-N-Cite 4 for Mac.  To download this specific version of Java visit, http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572.

After installing the version of Java provided by Apple, please also check if your computer has the latest version of Java installed as well.  To do this, open the Safari web browser and visit, http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp.

Troubleshooting Tips for F1000Workspace

For Windows, if the Word Plugin crashes or is unresponsive, please follow the steps listed below:

  • In control Panel, select Programs > Uninstall a program
  • Right click F1000Desktop and select Uninstall then complete the uninstall process.
  • After doing the standard uninstall with Control Panel, you'll need to access a hidden folder. You can show it by going to Control Panel > Appearance and Personalisation > Folder options, then select the View tab and go to Advanced Settings and select Show hidden files, folders and drives
  • Open a new Windows explorer window and go to OS (C:) > Users > {your username} > AppData > Local and delete the folder called F1000. 
  • After this has been done for Windows, please restart your computer, and then reinstall the F1000 desktop app using the link https://f1000.com/f1000software/F1000FullInstaller.exe

For Mac, the directions are different:

  • In Finder (or on your toolbar), Go to Applications, control-click on F1000 and move it to your trash.
  • Again in Finder, click Applications and navigate to Microsoft Office 2011 > Office > Startup > Word. In this location, delete the two .dot files with F1000 in the title.
  • Go to the finder menu on the top of the screen, select the Go menu, then hold down ALT. You should see a Library folder appear. Go into it and then go to: Library > Application support and delete the F1000 folder.

Uninstalling our Word Plugin for Mac - Word 2016

  • In Finder (or on your toolbar), Go to Applications, control-click on F1000 and move it to your trash.
  • To delete the Template files, you'll need to go to the finder menu on the top of the screen, select the Go menu, then hold down ALT. You should see a Library folder appear. Go into it and then go to: Library > Group Containers > {Id dependant on your machine}.Office > User content > Startup > Word. In here, delete F1000-2016.dot and F1000.dot.
  • In that same library folder, there should be another called Application Support. Go into it and delete the F1000 folder.
