With Write-n-Cite, writers can cite references in a manuscript with the click of a button. The utility installs a Write-N-Cite icon on your desktop as well as a choice in the "Add-in" section of Word (Windows users only).
RefWorks launched a new Write-n-Cite (WnC) version on June 23, 2021. This new version, 4.6.201 (or higher), is available on the Tools page of RefWorks. This new version will provide improved security. Please note that previous versions will still work.
Users who open WnC will see a message similar to the following:
Alert: From the RefWorks Product Management Team
In August we announced a new Write-n-Cite (WnC) version for Windows was available, with a Mac version to follow; the new versions have important security enhancements. We are happy to update that the new version for Mac, 4.6.239 (or higher), is available on the Tools page of RefWorks and Legacy RefWorks and here.
The upgrade deadline for Mac users has been extended and is now November 30 (and not October 31).
How can users upgrade:
When users open WnC they will be prompted to upgrade. Additionally, users will receive an in-app message in RefWorks and in legacy RefWorks announcing this new version is available. Users can download the new version from the Tools page of RefWorks and legacy RefWorks and from here.
What If a user doesn’t upgrade:
Users who do not upgrade now will be able to continue using the current WnC version, but won't have the security enhancements. However, starting November 30, older versions will no longer work. We recommend upgrading to the latest version now.
Note for WnC for Windows users:
Some users have been unable to install the latest version of WnC for Windows – 4.6.241. A new version will be available to these users soon, and they will have an upgrade deadline of November 30.
